Westin Hotel
25-story hotel for the Providence Convention Center
($55 million)
LOCATION:
Downtown Providence, RI
DESCRIPTION:
The Providence Westin Hotel was built in parallel
with the new Rhode Island Convention Center. The hotel is connected
to the adjacent convention center by a pedestrian bridge. The hotel
consists of two parts:
-
A steel framed
structure houses the lobby, offices, and an indoor pool. The pool
structure is suspended from the upper floors of the building and lies
beneath a steel and glass-domed roof.
-
A 25-story reinforced concrete tower houses the main hotel. The
tower is one of the tallest concrete structures in New England.
Odeh Engineers
provided structural design, computer aided drafting, and construction
supervision services for the entire project.
The American
Concrete Institute awarded Odeh Engineers a Building Award in 1996 for the
Providence Westin Hotel project.
